EN A resort on the edge of decay. Once built for relaxation, but now stands a silent witness to exhaustion. In Weather the Storm, a secluded enclave is captured, where time seems to be suspended between luxury and disintegration. These photographs were taken during my residency in Cuba. The images show empty swimming pools, weathered facades, and interiors that have lost their luster. Among all this, tourists move in a rhythm of consumption and numbness. They fill their days with abundance, their nights with oblivion. What was meant to be an escape feels here like a standstill. It is a façade, but also reality.

NL Een resort op de rand van het verval. Ooit gebouwd om te ontspannen, maar nu een stille getuige van uitputting. In Weather the Storm wordt een afgelegen enclave vastgelegd, waar de tijd lijkt stil te staan tussen luxe en verval. Deze foto’s zijn gemaakt tijdens mijn residentie in Cuba. De beelden tonen lege zwembaden, verweerde gevels en interieurs die hun glans hebben verloren. Te midden van dit alles bewegen toeristen zich in een ritme van consumptie en gevoelloosheid. Ze vullen hun dagen met overvloed, hun nachten met vergetelheid. Wat bedoeld was als een ontsnapping, voelt hier als een stilstand. Het is een façade, maar ook de realiteit.
